A Glance Into the Zoox Development

Zoox, the self-driving technology startup based in Foster City near San Francisco and bought by Amazon last year, gives us a glimpse into the development of its future robotaxi. Officially unveiled in December 2020, this bidirectional driving vehicle is now learning more about how the vehicle is being developed and tested.

The six-minute video devotes a large part to the simulator, which is used to go through technical failures to find out how the vehicle behaves in such situations.

Similar vehicle concepts were presented by GM with the Cruise Origin or by Canoo. All of these no longer have a driver’s seat, the vehicles can travel in both directions, and passengers sit facing each other. Cruise also had just announced that it has started manufacturing the first 1,000 units of its Cruise Origin.
