Designing the Nuro Delivery Robot
WIRED Magazine visited Mountain View-based delivery robot maker Nuro for design insights. In the video, we learn that the Nuro designers started with wooden models to estimate the dimensions and how shopping bags would fit inside.
Also how the sensors are housed in an arc that towers over the vehicle. These include a LiDAR and a good dozen cameras. We also learn that the vehicle has a speaker to communicate with users. On the proper sound alone, Nuro sound designers sat for six months. There are also microphones in the vehicle that can pick up the sirens of emergency vehicles.
