Rivian Delivers First Batch of Electric Delivery Vehicles to Amazon
U.S. electric car manufacturer Rivian, headquartered in Irving, California, today delivered its first 100 electric delivery vehicles to Amazon. This is the third type of electric car Rivian has delivered, following the Rivian R1T pickup and R1S SUV.
Amazon not only holds a 16.2 p percent stake in Rivian, but has also placed an order for 100,000 of these delivery vehicles. Rivian also recently allowed a first look at how the vehicles are manufactured, and also began building its own Supercharger network. Three different sizes of the delivery vehicles are currently available, and more sizes and upgrades are planned.
The vehicles are now in use in Chicago, Dallas, Kansas City, Phoenix, San Diego, Seattle and St. Louis. Amazon expects that by the end of the year, thousands of these vehicles will already be on the streets of more than a hundred American cities on behalf of Amazon. By 2030, there should then be 100,000 of these vehicles. In this way, Amazon also wants to fulfill its climate promise to be CO2-neutral in all business areas by 2040.
