Walmart Orders 4,500 Canoo Electric Vehicles

U.S. retail chain Walmart announced it has ordered 4,500 electric delivery vehicles from Canoo. Walmart also has an option to expand the order to 10,000. The first vehicles are scheduled to be delivered to Walmart starting in 2023, but the first vehicles are expected to be used for testing around Dallas Fort Worth soon.

The so-called Lifestyle Delivery Vehicle LDV will serve for online orders and deliveries from stores to consumers – the so-called last mile – and will be optimized for frequent stop-and-go.

Walmart currently operates 3,800 stores in the U.S. and these are within a 10-mile radius of 90% of the U.S. population. The vehicles are intended to help Walmart achieve its goal of being emissions neutral by 2040.

Canoo plans to begin production of the LDVs in the fourth quarter of 2022.
