Cruise Opens Robotaxis in San Francisco to Residents

The first of February 2022 is not only the day that mandatory vaccinations went into effect in Austria, but also the day that San Franciscans (as the city’s residents are called) are allowed to officially apply for enrollment in the passenger program of GM Cruise – the self-driving technology division of General Motors – at the GetCruise.com link.

So far, the service has been reserved for GM Cruise employees in test mode, but the first external passengers already rode last nights.

What makes it special is that there is no safety driver in the car. Currently, GM Cruise is only allowed to operate its autonomous vehicles driverless in San Francisco between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., and they cover about 90 percent of the city. It is estimated that GM Cruise currently has around 170 vehicles in operation.
