Cruise Origin For Wheelchair Riders

Just under a year ago, Cruise introduced handicapped access for its new vehicle, the Cruise Origin. In the video, you can see how a wheelchair user enters the vehicle and then secures herself inside.

At the IEEE International Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems, ITSC 2023 in Bilbao, Spain, in September, Cruise developers will present a study on the use of robotaxis by people with disabilities. This one addresses two questions:

How do traditional cab experiences influence accessibility expectations in autonomous taxis?

To what extent does the autonomy of driverless taxis contribute to a perceived increase in travel freedom?

This is one of the few studies conducted to date on autonomous cars in the context of disabled individuals.
