Cruise Origin with Wheelchair Access Starts Test Phase

Cruise CEO Kyle Vogt announced today that initial testing on a closed course of the Cruise WAV (Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle) with integrated wheelchair access based on the Cruise Origin will begin next month, with a first pilot to follow next year. Cruise currently has the only known concept for a driverless robotaxi that has been developed with wheelchair accessibility in mind.

The vehicle was developed by GM and Cruise in collaboration with BraunAbility, Q’Straint and members of the Cruise Accessibility Council.

The transportation status quo is not only unsafe, it is inaccessible. Over 41 million Americans with disabilities deserve better transportation options.
