Rivian Produced 1,015 and Delivered 920 Cars

The 2021 numbers are in, and Rivian, only public since the fall and currently the eighth most valuable car company at $75 billion valuation even ahead of BMW or Stellantis, just missed its targets. For example, 1,200 units of the R1T pickup, 25 units of the R1S SUV and 10 units of EDV vans had been the production target, and 1,000 units of R1T, 25 units of R1S SUV and 10 units of EDV vans had been the delivery target.

The Plymouth, Michigan-based company did not break down the numbers by pickup and SUV, the two vehicles Rivian currently produces. The first delivery of the R1T pickup was on Sept. 14, 2021, and the first of the R1S SUV was in December 2021.

As of December 15, the number of pre-orders stands at 71,000. In addition to the current factory in Normal in the U.S. state of Illinois, a second factory is scheduled to come on stream in the U.S. state of Georgia in 2024. The factory in Normal is expected to reach a capacity of 200,000 units per year, the one in Georgia 400,000 units per year. Rivian is currently attempting the feat of ramping up production of three vehicle types at once. By the end of this decade, one million vehicles are to be produced annually.
