Waymo Starts Driverless Service in Austin

It’s all coming thick and fast. Waymo has only just received approval to start its driverless commercial robotaxi services in Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bay Area from San Francisco to Sunnyvale, and the next piece of good news has already arrived. Waymo is now authorized to operate driverless services in Austin.

This makes Austin the fourth city and region in the USA in which Waymo operates a commercial driverless robotaxi service. Until recently, Google’s sister company Waymo was accused of being too hesitant and taking too long to develop and launch the robotaxi service, but this approach is now proving to be a formula for success. After Phoenix, San Francisco and the Bay Area, the greater Los Angeles area, Waymo is now also represented in Austin with a driverless robotaxi service.

We are excited to begin driving with no human at the wheel in #Austin tomorrow! The @Waymo Driver continues to impress after months of careful testing, and this milestone brings us a step closer to launching in our 4th ride-hail city. Check out Austin through our eyes: pic.twitter.com/x75rTdtrw5
